MADE Workshop

On January 10th RJE+ Knoll hosted our final MADE workshop. For those of you who have not been following along MADE stands for mentoring a designer to evolve. This session was the sixth and final session in the evolution and it focused on NETWORKING. Networking means many things to many people, so we brought in a pro. Molly Chavers, executive director from INDY HUB, came to talk to our group. Molly shared a bit about Indy Hub and also focused on the “generous networker”. Making new connections and meeting new people makes work, and life, more rewarding. For all of us at RJE and Knoll it has certainly been rewarding getting to know all these wonderful young designers better. For more info about Indy Hub check out their website www.indyhub.org or attend one of their happy hours.

Stay tuned…three lucky designers won a trip to Knoll’s NYC showroom for the day. Of course while we are there we will also take in some of the sights in the Big Apple. This trip is scheduled for this Spring and we will be sure to share photos of the group in action.

Another year at RJE

Another year at RJE comes to an end…….With a bright future in sight

As an annual tradition, RJE celebrated Santa and the Holiday season with the families of our employees. On Saturday, December 10th Santa Claus made a special visit to the RJE furniture showroom with his side kick Dante the elf. The children were filled with joy and the adults were too as they stuffed themselves with donuts and coffee! Each child was called by name to sit on Santa’s lap and receive a special gift. The day couldn’t have been more special. We look forward to next year’s visit from Santa!

The fun for the Holidays did not end there for RJE. As a company, we celebrated our Holiday luncheon on December 23rd with fun, food, and games! The party could not begin until Denny Sponsel, a.k.a The Big Kahuna, was adorned with the special Christmas vest. The RJE family decided that we needed to have a special ugly Christmas sweater contest ourselves. Doug Warrix from our service and operations team really out did himself this year. From the lights around his collar to the candy canes draping from his waist, no one could deny that Doug had the ugliest sweater of all! As a tradition for 6th year, we held our dessert contest to see you could not only sell or install furniture, but who could make the most decadent treat! The Harrison College Chef’s Academy was gracious enough to serve as our judge. This year’s winner was Matt Callahan served up a red velvet peppermint delight! Winning this contest made Matt’s Holiday complete. The luncheon could not come to an end without the RJE family presenting Denny with a special gift to show our love and appreciation. What a wonderful time of the year!

As 2011 ended and 2012 is well on its way, the RJE team looks back on a wonderful year and cannot wait to make your spaces all you ever dreamed of!

2011 Red Event

RJE Business Interiors and Knoll hosted The Red Event on Thursday, October 6 benefiting the Little Red Door Cancer Agency in Indianapolis.

This is the third year for the event, which has raised more than $9000.00 for the non-profit agency.

The event featured local designers and architects selling their handmade goods and 10 percent of the proceeds went to the non-profit. We had everything from knitted items, to handbags, to jewelry, to food items. We also had a silent auction and all of the proceeds benefited the Little Red Door Agency.

RJE and Knoll feel blessed to be able to give back to their community.

DIRTT Road Trip

The RJE Sales & Design departments took a road trip to Chicago’s Furniture Mart to visit the DIRTT Green Learning Center (GLC).  RJE just became the only Indiana authorized dealership for DIRTT.  DIRTT Environmental Solutions is manufactured in Calgary, Alberta and their acronym stands for Doing It Right This Time.  DIRTT is not just meant for the conventional commercial office environment.  DIRTT can be utilized in other market segments including health care which was a large focus of the Chicago GLC.

The DIRTT solution consists of multiple layers, primarily structural, aesthetic, technological, and application specific. Each of these is comprised of several sub-modular layers. It is through this multi-layered approach that DIRTT can support a high velocity of install and manufacturing, simply because multiple processes and activities can be done in parallel in multiple locations.

Beyond the “wall” system itself, DIRTT Modular Electric and Data shares the same approach to modularity and applies it to power and communication distribution.  This solution is a “plug and play” system, and brings a significant level of freedom to the DIRTT environment and the client solution as a whole. There are no practical boundaries to this; the solution provides adaptability, speed of install, material efficiency, lower cost, and sustainability to floor, ceiling, and drywall distribution of power as well.

DIRTT’S specification software ICE, allows the RJE team to explore design choices while working side by side with our clients. ICE also provides apples to apples price comparison and visual 3D images. DIRTT and RJE are committed to providing solutions that reflect the needs of the client in every way.

A few Stats on the DIRTT product:

• Parametric – no standard sizes – pay for exactly what you use and want

• Universal support element keeps legacy furniture in use

• Wall are easily accessible for inspection and changes or adds without extra time

• Create precise module size for more efficient reconfigurations

• Integrates with technology and base building
