Record Growth Gives RJE Business Interiors New Sales V.P.

Internal Promotion Sets Company Culture Apart

INDIANAPOLIS - Six straight years of record growth has prompted RJE Business Interiors to add a new position: vice president of sales. RJE former Team Sales Manager Brad Wuerch has been selected for the newly-created job, RJE President and CEO Denny Sponsel announced today.
"This new element of our organization is truly a symbol of our growth and Brad has definitely played a large role in that," Sponsel explained.
Annual revenue for the business furniture and office design firm has more than doubled since Sponsel acquired RJE at a time when the business furniture industry was in serious decline. The downtown company's employee roster also has grown from 27 in 2000 to 45 this year.
"Just as the business has grown, it was time to grow what makes that possible," said Sponsel. "Now, I can personally focus more on the business from a strategic point of view, while the critical task of taking care of our clients and our sales team will be managed -- and managed very well -- by Brad."
Sponsel praised Wuerch as someone who "understands our unique culture and our commitment to taking care of the customer. He does what he says and says what he does," said Sponsel.
"Here at RJE," Sponsel continued, "We strongly believe in the principles laid out in Jack Mitchell's book, Hug Your Customers. Brad lives those ideas every day."
Sponsel added the change also will enable him and RJE to continue helping the multiple downtown, community and charitable organizations to which he is committed. "I'm not going anywhere," he added. "I will still be very much involved with our customers."
Wuerch joined RJE shortly after Sponsel bought the company at a time when many similar firms were facing revenue shortages and cutbacks. A seven-year sales veteran, Wuerch said he was up for the challenge because he was looking for something different, namely a mentor.
"I definitely found my mentor in Denny Sponsel, and not only from a business standpoint. He believes, as I do, that you must play an active role in making your community better," said Wuerch.
"Of course, he is a smart businessman," Wuerch continued. "How else could he have led RJE through the hard times that affected our entire industry to more than double our revenue? I've been very fortunate to have Denny Sponsel as my all-around coach. I am very honored that he's put his trust in me and I can't wait to give back to him and to our clients."
"Brad has gone the distance for our clients. He was the right man for the job, not only because of his accomplishments, but also because he is part of the RJE family. I'm a firm believer in promoting within the company," said Sponsel.
Promoting current staff helps make a company stronger, according to Sponsel. "It's the way things used to be done and should be done again," said Sponsel.
A native of Indianapolis, Wuerch grew up on the city's northeastside and graduated from Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. He is a member of the International Interior Design Association's board of trustees and the Westminster Neighborhood Ministries board of directors.

We want to congratulate Bob Manley and Mandy Stamper for winning our equivalent of employees of the year.
